FBI Takes Down RadarDispossessor Ransomware Gang

FBI Seizes Servers and Websites

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced on Monday that it had seized the servers and websites of the RadarDispossessor ransomware gang.

The Shutdown

In a statement from the FBI's Cleveland, Ohio field office, the feds said they seized the gang's domains and servers located in the United States.

The FBI said the shutdown was the result of a "coordinated law enforcement effort" that involved the FBI, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Ohio, and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

The Ransomware

RadarDispossessor is a ransomware that encrypts files on a victim's computer and demands a ransom payment in exchange for decrypting the files.

The FBI said the gang has been operating since at least 2022 and has targeted businesses and individuals in the United States and other countries.

The Investigation

The FBI said it began investigating the RadarDispossessor gang in 2023.

The investigation led to the identification of the gang's members and the seizure of their servers and websites.

The Charges

The FBI said the gang's members have been charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering.

The charges carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.

The Impact

The shutdown will help to protect businesses and individuals from the gang's ransomware attacks.
